When the Jamboard team in Google were looking for a touch system for their new 55in interactive whiteboard they knew their requirements were not going to be met by the traditional touch solution providers - they knew that they needed to find a new way. After an extensive search of the available technologies and rigorous testing Google selected the optical touch solution from RAPT.

They demanded and received:

  • A single solution that supported finger, stylus and eraser detection
  • A passive stylus - no batteries wanted!
  • 20+ touches - for many users to simultaneously access the system
  • Pressure detection - to enable better drawing experience
  • High report rate - essential to give fine pen writing performance
  • High accuracy - sub millimetre accuracy across the whole surface
  • Very low latency - essential for a true ‘pen on paper’ experience

Hitevision needed a new product with a low cost structure and excellent writing performance. Their existing solutions didn’t meet market expectations and they needed to quickly find an alternative solution to their inhouse development. After a quick but rigorous testing phase Hitevision launched three different whiteboard products using the RAPT hardware and software stack while still conforming to their original physical system specifications.

This allowed them to meet the exacting demands of the Chinese Education market where a low latency and high accuracy is essential to producing a top quality writing experience. Support was included for up to 20 touches, with a sub-1mm accuracy for touch location over more than 90% of the touch area. Touches were also reported at rates in excess of 100Hz, and tracking latency was less than 11ms while reporting up to 5 fingers or pens.

OLED Monitor Supplier

A supplier of OLED Monitors wanted to showcase their new products for a new market segment . This new market segment was the Desktop Workstation - suitable for Engineering and Creative Professionals. The customer realised it was not possible to get a touch solution using ProCap in the size they wanted (a 27in display). In addition to the key performance requirements of low latency and high  accuracy, they wanted to have custom actions that would augment the workflows of their power users.

We delivered a series of passive ‘widgets’ which can be attached to the screen to provide additional custom inputs - for example a very popular widget is the ‘color dial’. This allows a user to place the widget on the screen and have a color wheel appear. The user can interact with the touchscreen using the widget to select whatever color they want. Other examples included video-dialling and a calendar widget.
